The IF / OS Garden

Gobaith - i - Ethiopia have teamed up with the children and teachers of St Mary's Primary School in Wrexham to promote the IF Campaign (OS in Welsh). "There is  enough food for all - IF ......".

As part of their RE programme their topic was "Sharing Our World, Being Good Neighbours, Treasures and Stewardship"

The charity obtained a grant from the Hub and Wales Africa Community Links which has enabled the young children, with the help of their teachers, to publicise the campaign that there is enough food in the world for everyone IF / OS.

Using the money from the grant the children of the Foundation Phase and Juniors have planted an IF/OS garden with flowers and vegetables arranged in the shape of the campaign slogans "IF" and "OS" which they can look after and watch grow.

The plants are growing well and the children were thrilled by a visit from the local AM, Lesley Griffith who came along to see their to see their work.

The school ECO committee are writing prayers about Stewardship of the world on footprints and will display them in the shape of an IF. The purpose of the project was to help children become aware of the importance of sharing and caring for the resources in our world and hopefully share this message with their families and friends outside the school community.

Now in November the children are continuing with their project and are tending to the more perennial plants as well as sowing more seeds of pansies for the winter - again planted in the IF/OS shapes

The four big IFs

IF we give enough aid to stop children dying from hunger and help the poorest families feed themselves

IF governments stop big companies from dodging tax in poor countries so that millions of people can free themselves from hunger

IF we stop poor farmers being forced off their land and we grow crops to feed people not fuel cars

IF governments and big companies are honest and open about their actions that stop people getting enough food
